Yesterday was probably the worst day for me in regards to whatever is going on - we think food poisoning, but we aren't 100% positive. The girls kept me company all day, which I loved. I spent the morning watching Netflix in bed. I needed to be working on my dissertation proposal, but I had a killer headache and just couldn't make myself do it. I wouldn't mind being sick so much if I could still get things done! I was pretty frustrated yesterday.
Jake told me to drink some Skratch to replace electrolytes. I love this stuff! It's all natural and tastes SO good. We also love their recovery shakes - they have all kinds of products. Check them out HERE.
Stilllllll laying in bed watching Shameless! I was worn out - not tired enough to nap, but didn't have enough energy to go do anything. Pity party galore!
I finally grabbed a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe. I added an immune booster to it - I'm willing to do anything to feel better as this point.
After I drank my smoothie, I had a phone conference about my dissertation and the article I'm co-authoring. I was a little overwhelmed after our talk because I felt behind (hello, you laid in bed all day and watched Netflix. No duh.). So, I decided to nap. Eye-roll. See, I was really having a pity party for myself. I slept for about an hour, then got up and decided I needed to be an adult and get some work done. About that time, Jake got home from work and got ready to go on his 40-some mile ride. (He's been having some of the same issues I have, just not quite as bad. He had part of what I ate at dinner the other night, so we don't know if that's what caused it or if we caught some bug.) While he was out for his ride, I sucked it up and started working on some stuff. After about 2 hours, I had gotten a little bit accomplished and felt a tiny bit better. One day I'll learn that if I just take care of what I need to do, I'll feel a whole lot better! Maybe. No promises.
After I got some work finished, I decided we needed some avocados for dinner, so I ran to the store real quick. I haven't had much of an appetite the last few days, but as I was walking through the store, I saw some watermelon and realized I HAD to have it. I couldn't even wait to get home to eat some of it...YUM.
I've always liked watermelon, but this was so perfect I just couldn't stop. I ate a ton of it.
We were supposed to have this dinner Tuesday, but I didn't feel like cooking that night, so it got pushed back to last night. Jake had ground chicken tacos with corn, black beans, salsa, and jalapeno, with some quinoa, and avocado on the side.
I decided I probably didn't need beans or jalapenos (sad day) with how my stomach was feeling, so I tried to keep mine a little more bland. I did have a tortilla and add a tiny bit of salsa to my quinoa. It was SO nice to eat a real meal.
This might be TMI, so feel free to keep scrolling! Before bed last night, I told Jake that I really wanted to try and run in the morning. I knew it would be uncomfortable, but I just needed to do something. He is SO good about making me stick to my word - even when I don't want to...Well, I managed to keep dinner down all through the night! (I was up getting sick 4 or 5 times Tuesday night). I didn't get sick again (sorry for the TMI) until around 4:30 am, which is when we were getting up to run. I, of course, started feeling sorry for myself and told Jake that I didn't think I was going to run. He knew I was bummed and asked if I was sure. I kept going back and forth and eventually, I just said I wasn't going. I'm sure I said it in a pouty way. He told me to just think about it and then went to the garage to put his running shoes on (he's a smart man and knows me well). He came back inside and I had gotten my running clothes on and decided I was going. Did I feel like running? Heck no. Did I want to run? Kind of. I love our morning runs, so I decided I would go for a mile or two and just see how I felt. Plus, Jake had been feeling crummy too and he was going to run. I figured we could be miserable together!
Well, it was tough. We walked a lot. But we got a sloooow 4 miles in. They weren't pretty miles, but they were still something.
Here are my thoughts on running when you're sick: Listen to your body - it will give you clues on whether or not it's smart to push through or lay off. Don't go too hard too soon - I would've loved to run yesterday, but I knew it wasn't smart, and I knew if I ran today, it needed to be slow. And it was. Rest - let your body have time to recover, plus, can you think of a better excuse to binge watch some Netflix?! Refuel - this is always important, but I think it's even more important when you're feeling crummy. I know I will be drinking lots and lots of water today.
After our run, I made oatmeal with some Ripple milk to add some protein. So far, I haven't gotten sick! Fingers crossed I'm at the end of this. My appetite is coming back, so I think that's a good sign.
I plan to relax and rest today while working on stuff. We were going to go camping this weekend, but decided it's not the best time. After being sick this week, behind on work (I blame Netflix), and knowing we will be gone a lot in the next two months, we decided we needed to stay at home.
Hey, it's Friday Eve! Yay! Happy Thursday, everyone!
I write about whatever is going on each day. I want to use this space as a place to document my dissertation and training journeys.
