Weekend Wrap-up Part 2! + a little surprise!

I don’t know what I would’ve done without ALL the layers and buffs in Colorado. I stayed so cozy, but I think I wore at least 4 layers every time I stepped outside. Having the right gear is essential!
On our second day in Georgetown, CO, which was Saturday, we started the morning with an 8-mile trail run/hike. The guys let me pretend I could hang with them. It was a blast. Running in the snow is one of my favorites, which I think I tell you every winter.
It snowed pretty heavy on us, you can see some of the snow that the mountains across from us were getting.
This run was also my first time running with poles. I’m already awkward, so I was nervous about trying them, but I ended up really liking them! Definitely still awkward, but I think after I use them some more, I’ll really enjoy them. They were great to test out how deep the snow was.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dwayne and Bettina, for letting us crash with you guys! Aaaand for showing us how incredible Georgetown is.
We all rocked our Altra Lone Peak Mids. HERE. I cannot say enough good things about these shoes. Having wet, cold feet on a run/hike is the LAST thing I want. My toes never got cold and since these bad boys are waterproof, everything stayed dry! If you’re looking for some mid height running/hiking shoe, I HIGHLY recommend looking into these.
This is what we were running on for most of our time on the trail. Gorgeous, huh?
This run got me thinking that I’d enjoy a snowy race. Maybe that’s a goal in 2020??? Any good ones I should look into?? Half, full, or 50k?
Jake is a natural on basically any and all terrain.
Nothing says you just finished a trail run like a beer. After we ran, Jake and I headed to a fun Mexican place in Georgetown. I think it was called Lucha’s.
I know it seems weird, but we ordered a grilled cheese. It was on special and just sounded SO good. And it was. It came with a side of cheddar broccoli soup, too!
The guys headed out to try some Nordic skiiing, so I hung with Bettina and her kiddos. It was nice to relax and get to chat with her. She’s originally from Denmark and has the prettiest accent. I love listening to her talk. Once the guys got back, we headed to dinner at Cooper’s, which is hands-down, one of my favorite restaurants. Ever. They had spicy Moscow Mules, which were incredible.
Jake and I shared the brussels, which I wanted another order of. I was mildly angry that we shared…
And we also shared this burger. Again, mild anger. It. Was. Outstanding. It was topped with goat cheese and caramelized onions. WOW. We would be in trouble if we had a Cooper’s close to us…
After dinner, we all relaxed and I played with Pippa, their precious Border Collie.
Sunday morning, Jake and I grabbed breakfast at Happy Cooker – we had been there before for lunch a few years ago and loved it – it’s also in Georgetown. I had the quiche and it was super yummy.
After breakfast, we headed out to explore! Jake did some more Nordic skiing and I snow shoed. I LOVE snow shoeing. Running in snow shoes is a blast, too! Maybe I should do a snow shoe race, too…only a 5k, though! It wore me out!
He’s obsessed with Nordic. And he’s pretty dang good at it, too!
I got some Pippa cuddles, then we headed to a brewery in town. The beer was phenomenal. I had small pours of every single one.
Jake and I shared a Reuben for lunch, from Troia’s. It was SO good.
We watched some mountain bike videos, too.
Since Sunday night was our last night, Bettina made us the most delicious soup. She sent me the recipe – it’s HERE. Jake and I both had seconds…he may have had thirds. Our short trip to Colorado was perfect, in big part to our incredible hosts. We miss them already!
A little update on current life – we have a new family member! I’ll share all about it tomorrow! Everyone, meet Rhea, our Australian Shepherd trail girl!
It is my wonderful mother-in-law’s birthday today!! Happy Birthday, Penny! So thankful for you and the amazing son you raised. Love you!
I’m off to attempt to get caught up on life, wrangle a puppy, and clean the house. I think I’m going to need all the coffee today!
Happy Tuesday, friends!
