We had a whirlwind of a weekend spent with some of our favorite people. It definitely flew by, but it was a good one.
This precious picture of baby Lulu popped up on Friday. She had the cutest little potbelly. I have puppy fever!!! If anyone has a puppy they will let me play with, I'll love you forever.
Friday morning started with a 6 mile run that was tough. I was supposed to do a warm-up, then hold 4 miles at an 8:15 pace, then a cool-down. For the life of me, I could not stay at 8:15 for the middle 4 miles. I was either too fast or too slow. It was frustrating! I ended up with 6 miles at an 8:20 pace. Then I sat on the driveway and drank a smoothie before lifting a little bit.
Aspen still wasn't feeling all that great on Friday, so she slept here pretty much the entire day. That's not poop on her bed (I thought it was for a second), it's just the stuffing from inside the bed. HA!)
I tried Jackfruit for the first time at dinner on Friday. The consistency is a little strange...but it tastes good! It's another meat substitute, but it's a fruit, so it's high in carbs and lower in protein. It's not bad, though! Also, this mayo is delicious.
For lunch Friday, I had veggies and a tilapia taco. It was one of my favorite lunches. I topped the taco with coleslaw and the above mayo. YUM.
This little girl is loving her haircut. Jake did a good job! This was his first time cutting a dog's hair, so I'm impressed with his work.
I was in a baking mood and needed a break from my dissertation so I made Skratch cookies Friday afternoon. They're our favorite.
I also made a roasted red pepper hummus. I'm still obsessed with our new blender/food processor. It's the best.
This is some of my favorite cereal. I got some to snack on. It's so yummy.
We decided to take the rest of day off from dissertation work, so I started prepping my online classes for the fall. Lu helped.
Jake and I were supposed to go to my parents' house for dinner Friday night, but he ended up working until 3 am-ish Saturday morning.
I love these Truly drinks. Has anyone had them?
I went to my parents' for dinner. They grilled brats, veggies, and bread, so I took my Jackfruit and a salad to share.
Oh, and some Skratch cookies.
My Dad is really talented with wood working. Check out this golf club he's working on!
After hanging out with my parents, I came home and went to bed. Poor Jake was still out working. He got home around 3 am, and I got up about 6 to do my long run. These were my long run essentials...my Nathan VaporHowe vest, chapstick (all I wear is Burt's Bees), headphones (Beats by Dre), Skratch chews, and Nuun hydration mix.
I also had a piece of toast with butter and honey. I discovered I can't have peanut butter before working out anymore. It really upsets my stomach. I also feel like I'm starting to develop a mild allergy to peanut butter. My throat feels tight after I have it. I'm not sure if that's even possible, but it's weird. I'm doing an Everlywell food sensitivity test soon, so I'm excited to see what that says.
Gah, another baby Lu picture. She was so tiny. <3
I got 12 miles in on Saturday. Overall, my run went well. I listened to two podcasts since my run needed to be slow. Music makes me run faster than what I needed to do on Saturday. I got 12 miles in at a 9:17 pace. My goal pace was 9:18, so I was pleased with my run.
I walked into the garage and Jake's work clothes were laying out like this. It reminded me of the flat racing pictures people post the night before a race.
Soooo, I walked inside, starving and super pumped to eat, only to discover that Aspen had ripped out one of her stitches and was bleeding pretty badly. I rushed her to the vet, but they said the spot was so inflamed they couldn't even staple it shut. Super. So she now has an open wound and is living her best cone life. She was not happy with me. At all. We are still waiting to hear the results of the biopsies. Hopefully we hear something today! She does seem to be feeling a tiny bit better today (Monday), so that makes me so happy!
I finally got home from the vet and make breakfast for myself and Jake. We had smoothies and breakfast tacos.
Oh, the cone life. Lu is worried I'm going to put a cone on her, too.
This is the glamorous post long run look. ; )
Jake went to get his own long run in, so I made myself lunch and iced my knee, which was a little sore. For lunch, I had the rest of my Jackfruit and some more veggies.
Candles are my favorite. I love this scent.
I think this is the highest my rate heart has been...I don't remember ever feeling like it was that high, so I'm not sure if I believe this or not. That average is pretty typical for me, though.
Pouting about something.
I think she just wanted some cuddles.
Jake got home from his run, changed, sat in the chair, and passed out. But not before he put ice packs on his ankles. Training is hard!
I woke Jake up so we could get ready to go to a birthday party. I had another Truly before we left. I really love these things.
Our friend, Katey, had her 32nd birthday on Saturday. She wanted to go to Big Whiskey's, so that's what we did. I had the Ahi Tuna and it was delicious.
We had a big group at dinner, then we all went to Midnight Rodeo.
Sneaky friends. We definitely stayed out WAY later than planned, and I failed at getting pictures, but we had a blast! Jake and I two-stepped so much that I think my legs are still sore...
Sunday morning, we slept in, then met Jake's Mom and sister for brunch at Brew Co. I had the avocado toast.
Jake and I drove around after brunch and just looked at houses, which is one of our favorite things to do, then we both took a nap. We had dinner plans with my parents. When we got to their house, we walked in and saw these - Monster cookies!!! YES.
My parents grilled brats again, so I brought over a fish filet to grill.
My Mom has these coasters on their deck. I love them.
Lu plays fetch the entire time we are at my parents. There's a reason I don't have tennis balls at our house...this dog can (and does) play fetch for HOURS.
All the goodies from the grill. And some sides from Lucky's.
I LOVE cowboy grillers (steak wrapped in bacon), so I had to have one. We had lots of good stuff!
Remember how I said my Dad was super talented at wood working? He built their dartboard case. He has doors that go on it, too.
My Mom was ecstatic when she hit the bullseye. She screamed...she gets very into games. ; ) We played Around the World - it was super fun.
My Dad crushed everyone. He's good at everything.
Lu wanted my Dad's attention on her. Always. She's obsessed with him. And he MAJORLY spoils her...he will sleep in his recliner any time she stays with them so she doesn't have to sleep by herself...no joke.
That was our weekend! It was a good one, spent with some of our favorites.
Training log from last week:
Monday: 3 mile WU, 6x (300m uphill at 7:50, 300m downhill at 8:45 w/ 90 sec rest), 2 mile CD - 8 miles total.
Tuesday: Rowing circuit, lifting, and elliptical
Wednesday: Acid reflux run...3.5 miles run/walk
Thursday: 60 minute OrangeTheory class
Friday: 6 miles
Saturday: 12 miles
Sunday: Much needed rest day!
I met Jyss at the track this morning and we each did our own workout. I think we both ended with about 9 miles or so. I'll post more about that tomorrow! Now it's time to work on my dissertation!
Happy Monday, friends!
I write about whatever is going on each day. I want to use this space as a place to document my dissertation and training journeys.
